You have a reason to go through life and do things. Most people do not have the right reason. Here are some of the things that can drive our lives.
Guilt- Sometimes we let our past mistakes control our lives and
drive our future. The problem with using guilt to drive us is that we can’t
let go of our failure and we put ourselves down.
Anger- Some of us who have been hurt by someone else hold on
to that pain and use it to drive our lives. This way will hurt you more
than you hurt them. Only forgiveness can help you get past this.
Fear- When we are afraid of new things we miss out on the excitement
God planned for our life. The Bible tells us that when we understand God’s
Love and trust in it, it will take away our fear.
Things- Sometimes we let things control us. We ignore trying
to make ourselves better, and focus on getting stuff. The fact is everything
in this life will pass away. If having more made us better then losing
things would make God Love us less. And he doesn’t care about how much
you have since he owns it all anyway.
Approval- Some of us make decisions for our life based on what
others think of us. If we do this, then we will be disappointed because
we can’t please everyone. Jesus told us that we can’t even serve two masters.
Trying to please people will make you fail at pleasing God, yourself, and
everyone else.
Most of us are caught in one or more of these traps at some point. None of them make God happy, fulfill our purpose, or lead us to feeling good about ourselves. But God designed a better way.
Purpose- When our life is driven by purpose, we have meaning, clarity, focus, motivation, and we are preparing for eternity. Purpose makes tomorrow worth living and today a lot easier. It is how we were made to live!
Remember that one day we will have to stand before God and tell him what we did with the life he gave us, and what we did with Jesus. What we did with Jesus will change where we spend eternity. What we do with our lives will change what we do in eternity.
Thinking about my purpose:
Know. A life driven by purpose leads to confidence and
peace.
Remember. “You, Lord, give perfect peace to those who
keep their purpose firm and put their trust in you.” Isaiah 26.3 (TEV)
Think about it. What would other people say drives my
life? What do I want them to say drives my life?
