…tell me more!

Visiting a church for the first time can be a little intimidating.  People tend to worry about what to wear and what to say.  Will I feel comfortable?  Will anyone talk to me?  And then there is that whole fear about standing  up and introducing yourself thing.  Fear not, our desire is that people would experience God, not embarrassment.

Each person at Cave Spring has a unique story to tell about  what  our church means to them.   Take the time to read

  • My Story by Shannon

    Shannon’s Story

I could sit and list all the wonderful things about CSUMC like Christmas Eve Service and hearing Danny Horsely sing O Holy Night, to my children’s personal favorite Holy Communion. But that really doesn’t describe fully all you get when you come to CSUMC.
Instead let me share that without question I have always felt complete acceptance and love from the members here.
They are always willing to lend a hand when you need them, for example Susie teaching me that my daughter would in fact stop crying if I left her Sunday school class, or when the choir director (Mark) came down after singing and hugged my daughter during service because he knew she needed one. Another example would be my youngest needing some extra support after losing a grandparent, and Julia (ministries coordinator) consoling her and helped explain her loss and pain. Finally, coming home from work, during a particularly challenging time in my life, a note in the mail from the ministry team simply stating that during their staff meeting that day they had prayed for me and my family, and it was signed by all of them. (it still makes me choke up. I needed God’s love that day so much) I could go on and on and on about all the times the members have be there for me and my children to help teach/lead us and support us to grow in our faith.
I love my church, and I am proud to be a member.

  • My Story by Becky and Jerry

    Becky and Jerry ‘s Story

What a delight to be a part of Cave Spring UMC. After visiting many churches, we felt that our place was with you all. We were drawn by the warmth, humor, Bible based preaching of both Rev. Ronnie and Pastor John, and the welcome extended to us by church members. We look forward to many years of being part of the CSUMC church family.

  • My Story by Emma - a youth perspective

    Emma’s Story

I enjoy CSUMC for many reasons. The Youth program is a lot of fun. I just started going now that I am in 6th grade. On Sunday evenings I go to Youth Hand Bells, the “Heavy Metal Ringers”. We perform our pieces sometimes during the services. Then later the fun begins at Youth Group. First we have dinner, and then rehearse for our plays (Christmas or Easter). When we’re not rehearsing we play games, and at the end we bow our heads and say a prayer. Our directors, Karen and Teresa, sometimes take us on a “Destination Unknown” where we don’t know where we are going until we get there. On Wednesday nights I go to Youth Choir, and then Bible Study. That is why I love CSUMC!

    Robert’s Story

    What is tradition?
Come learn the answer at CSUMC’s 11 a.m. service each Sunday.
On paper, the familiar aspects of worship are spelled out in indelible ink.
Old friends — Hymn of Praise, Scripture Reading, Anthem, The Lord’s Prayer, Doxology, Sermon, Offertory, Prayers of Intercession, Holy Communion, Responsive Call to Worship, Hymn of Dedication, Benediction, Choral Response — assemble in their accustomed positions.
In the pews, the sense of family is delivered with a warm handshake or hug of fellowship.
In practice, the traditional 11 a.m. service does not simply go through the motions.
Pastors challenge the congregation’s thinking with deeply researched and down-to-earth messages that reflect daily life.
Lay speakers, guests, church members young and old demonstrate CSUMC’s commitment to volunteerism and community service.
I attend the 11 a.m. service because I feel the strength of the church through its time-tested methods. I also attend because the 11 a.m. service offers an opportunity for quiet reflection.
Close your eyes and pray. Listen to the choir, focus on the cross, the vines and the dove of peace in the stained-glass window.
Be among many and be one with God.

Robert – faithful follower of Jesus Christ

What to wear?
That’s easy…wear whatever you feel comfortable in. We accept people as they are, no need to dress up and pretend to be someone you are not!  Some wear suits and dresses and there are others who wear casual, but neat, outfits.   We want you to feel comfortable and accepted at Cave Spring UMC.

What about my children?
We have excellent nursery facilities with a regular staff. Your children are also welcome in any of our services. Our pastor will invite them up to the front with all the other children just before the sermon time for a special story or a time to talk together. They are also welcome to come to communion with you. On most Sundays,  most small children leave the sanctuary after the children’s sermon and attend children’s church (Ages 3 through 2nd grade).  This is optional and not required; all are welcome and invited to attend our services.  You can pick them up there after the service is over if they choose to attend children’s church.

Are you handicap accessible?
Yes.  We have both a handicap ramp and an elevator.  Restrooms are located on each level that are handicap equipped.

Will there be someone to help me?
We have greeters stationed at each entrance to the worship center before worship begins each service.   There is always someone around with a smile and to be of assistance, so just ask anyone and they can help you or they will find someone who can.  We have a wonderful staff who is glad you are here and is willing to help you in any way.

Are there people my age?
Our church is filled with people of all ages. We have lots of families with children who enjoy our child-friendly worship services and active children’s programs. We have lots of families with teenagers who enjoy our youth program currently directed by committed volunteers . We also have singles, empty-nesters and senior adults who enjoy our adult Sunday School classes and worship.
